A Note from Dani | June 2026
We're Still Here and We're Building Something Better
Spectrum Social Squad is currently on a planned hiatus from in-person events. This isn't the end, it's the groundwork for a version of the squad that is sustainable, safe, and built to genuinely last.
Here's an honest update on where things are at.
What's Happening Behind the Scenes
-
Grant applications are in progress to secure ongoing funding for the squad's future
-
Transitioting into a not-for-profit space to allow for free and low cost events to contiune for the community.
-
New event formats are being planned: low-demand, sensory-friendly Parallel Play sessions and Creative Workshops
-
Volunteer onboarding is underway so events are never dependent on one person alone
-
A new Code of Conduct is being finalised to ensure every event is a space where members feel genuinely safe
Ongoing Plan for Future events
-
Original Mixed Group: On hold for now, but not forgotten. Once grant funding is secured to bring on paid, professional support staff, reinstating the mixed group is very much part of the plan. This is a priority, not an afterthought.
-
Women, Trans & Non-Binary Squad: In active planning. Relaunch date to be confirmed.
-
Men's Squad On hold until a suitable facilitator is confirmed. Interested in the role? We'd love to hear from you.
Squad
Thank you for your patience, your kind messages, and your continued support during this transition. You are the reason this work is worth doing.
We will be back in person and when we are, it will be better than before.

Help the Squad Level Up! 🚀We have big goals for the Spectrum Social Squad this year more events, better spaces, and more support for our members. To make that happen, we’re chasing grants to keep our community funded and sustainable. We need 2 minutes of your time! If the Squad has made a difference in your life, please let us (and the grant providers) know. Your feedback is the strongest tool we have to show the world why "By Autistics, For Autistics" spaces are essential.
